Mike Summers
Chife Engineer
Degree qualified in Energy Engineering from Edinburgh’s Napier University, Mike has gained extensive engineering experience in the fields of Energy & Process Engineering and Building Services / Facilities Management. Mike has spent the last 10 years working within the GCC.
Energy Engineering has featured throughout Mike’s career which has included many years working in critical environments such as acute hospitals, television production and transmission and 24 hour process industry including oil and gas. He has worked for household names such as the NHS in the UK, MTV and Shell.

Monitoring and Targeting as it was known in the early days now Measurement and Verification has been a permanent theme throughout Mike’s career be it related to the variable weather conditions or variations in production for example the tons of glass pulled through a glass furnace.

As well as directly saving energy hands on by for example balancing combustion on furnaces and steam boilers and balancing flows in large chilled water systems, there has been a wide variety of energy and environmental projects which Mike has designed and installed including:-
-
Automatic furnace temperature and combustion control @ 1,300oC ± 1oC.
-
O2 trim control for steam and HTHW boilers.
-
Power Factor Correction.
-
Forehearth glass conditioning via electric boost.
-
Gas fired radiant heating systems for warehouses.
-
District laundry installations replacing single batch machines.
-
Retrofit of CSSD from Freon drying to de-ionised rinse and hot air.
-
Conversion of steam boilers to oil fire.
-
BMS installations and modification bringing tighter control to HVAC and lighting.
-
Operating Air conditioning retrofits.
-
Installation and operation of waste to energy clinical waste incinerators in hospitals delivering steam/HTHW to the host hospitals.
-
Solar PV installations
More recently before joining Rezayat Energy Solutions, Mike has been working within the GCC for the past 5 years. His clients have included Shell, Emaar, Aldar, Jumeirah, Wasl amongst others. Significantly during this time Mike was involved in many walk through audits and investment grade audits for an ESCO in Dubai. Two of these were converted into actual 5 year Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs) with the ESCO providing the finance for the engineering retrofits required to deliver the guaranteed savings. Mike was the project manager for both these schemes
